Que sensaciones tenéis con “The Spirit of The Firewolf”?

¡Gracias!

- Mikkel

Habéis tardado 4 años entre vuestro anterior "Redneck Is the New Black" y este nuevo trabajo.

Solo queríamos hacer un álbum más grande y mejor que ”Redneck Is the New Black”.

- Mikkel

Y me gusta Biohazard; el álbum ”State of the Wolrd Address” 🙂 – Tommy

En "Look At Me Now" quería transmitir hasta cierto punto.

- Mikkel

The Spirit of the Firewolf”!

ENGLISH BELOW...

First of all, I would like to congratulate you on this new album. It's very good, it attracts you from the first song. It sounds cool, and at the same time very classic ... What sensations do you have with "The Spirit of The Firewolf"?

Thank you. Yes this album just kicks ass from start to end. We had a very good feeling about this album, we all in the band wanted to take us and this to the next level, so we all wrked hard on it. When Morten lay down the drums and Frederick started up the guitar in the studio. We just knew it is going to be good. - Tommy

There is no doubt that this record is the best one we have made so far. We have a more mature sound than the previous records. But is has been a tough ride to get product out, with a lot of ups and downs a long the way. - Mikkel

You have taken 4 years between your previous work "Redneck Is the New Black" and this new album. The differences are notorious, more forcefulness, more experience ... how do you see it? What differentiates your previous album from this one?

Next level man, next level, we just wanted to make a bigger and better album in Redneck. And of course it helped getting a younger and better guitarist Frederick AKA youngblood! - Tommy

Our style comes from rock’n roll and heavy metal. The old albums we did songs was either metal our rock songs, but now we combined the to genres on a more holistic way. Eventhough this is a metal album, you can in the most songs hear the rock wipe we are inspired from. Here i can highlight the chorus riff of “Hellsong” which is rock’n roll but the vers metal all way. - Mikkel

For those who do not know you, from your sound we could say that it is influenced by that hardcore and thrash of bands like Biohazard or Stick Of It All, to name a few. But 9000 John Doe injects more energy with stronger voices, more death at times, even gutturals. More forceful guitars and riffs, with a cooler sound. The strong point of 9000 John Doe is to be able to take you to the 90s, but with a current sound. What do you think?

Personally i am a big fan of Pantera, Metallica, Guns n Roses, Cancer Bats, Every time i die, Hatebreed, Airbourne and the power of they live shows. Pantera were just the best live band ever, so i always want to strong energy when we play live shows. We tried to catch the power and energy we have as a live band on the new album “ The spirit of the firewolf “ we got some of it. But 9000 John Doe is 100% a live band, come and check us out and see for yourself. I think we got a sound of the 90s, i am a fan of the 90s metal. And i like Biohazard, "State of the world address" album 🙂 - Tommy

It is a pretty good way to describe us. We have a lot of inspiration from that generation, but i have not thought of it in that way before. – Mikkel

Songs like "The Cold Street of London", or the first, "Hated By Most", are a clear sample of that sound of the 90s that commented ... Could you tell us about your influences?

The drum breakdown reminds me of Sepultura in "Hated By Most". And "The Cold Street of London", i just wanted it to sound like a horror movie ( jack the ripper thing ) and i got to shout Slayer in it, year the 90s again 🙂 - Tommy

"The cold street of London" is greatly inspired by “machine head”. Frederik is a huge Machine Head fan, and was listening a lot to them when creating these songs. - Mikkel

Another thing that I liked a lot about this album is that there are different tempos in each song. No need to appeal to speed, there are songs that are capable of breaking your neck. For example "Beatdown Sunday", which I think is one of the best on the album. I think that in general, there is a fantastic work at the instrumental level. How do you work when composing?

We like different tempos, so the album don’t gets boring. - Tommy

Thank you. Our new guitarist Frederik is the one who comes with the ideas for the songs. He is so effective and almost everything he does sounds insane. I cannot believe what this guy is capable of doing with a guitar. Check him out on youtube Frederik Jensen and done a lot of covers. What we have focus on when we write music , is to always make it groovy at some point, and create dynamics. - Mikkel

Another point to keep in mind is the voice of Tommy Knøs throughout the album. I think that in songs like "Look At Me Now" it shows all its potential (this is another of my favorite songs), with Tommy spitting out every verse, leaving it marked in every corner of your head.

In “Look At Me Now” i wanted to get a point across, the song lyrics are about me and my school days and all the shit i went too and how i came out on the other side. It was the last song i wrote for the album, very personal for me, glad you like it. At the time i was listening to a lot of Hatebreed, so i called up our hardcore friends in Earn Your Scars. You can hear them in the beginning and the middle of the song. - Tommy

What about calling himself Hardcore Hillbilly, why?

That is just what we are 😉 We are from Aalborg, Northern DK and our moonshine is Snaps! We are low key guys who are what we are, not be something we are not just to impress others. - Tommy

Now that the album is already released... What are the immediate plans of the band?

Tour with the kick ass danish band Illdisposed, and then more live shows, and maybe go to spain? can you help us with that?? 🙂 - Tommy

Going on DK tour and hopefully get some international jobs! And ofcourse drinking... - Mikkel

Final message for those who are discovering you now... according to 9000 John Doe, what is "The Spirit of The Firewolf"?

Welcome to the power house of energy the is 9000 John Doe, is damn good music to party to and drive to, but not a the same time 😉 "The Spirit of the Firewolf" is an album that is made to get you in a good mood and at the same time come out with you're angry. - Tommy

Thank you very much for this record and for your time!

And thanks you for the interview, and now everybody go listen to "The Spirit of the Firewolf"! or buy it right here : WEBSITE Cheers - Tommy
