Escuchando "Wolf To Man" notamos una buena sintonía con vuestras nuevas composiciones.

Muchas gracias, y mucha suerte con "Wolf To Man", un excelente trabajo.
Ir y apoyar el verdadero death metal melódico, ir a comprar "Wolf to Man" y venir a los conciertos. Seguid así y nunca olvides que "Man Is Wolf To Man". ¡Mi máximo respeto!

ENGLISH…

First of all thank you for attending TNT Radio, and congratulations for "Wolf To Man". You have been a few months ago (September) in Spain with Voivod. How were those two shows?
Glad that you liked the new album always a pleasure to talk about the new album and the band. Shows with Voivod went really great and we had the best of time, except the fact that they are a great band they are the best people ever and they treated us with respect. We got to know them pretty well and they are very friendly and nice dudes. They encouraging all the time and we got surprised that they liked the band and they are watching us every night, very good memories there. Show went great and the fans are always welcoming in Spain and they full of passion and give us energy every night.

Let's talk about your new album... In terms of sound, in my opinion, this album follows the line of "The Venomous", and although "By Darkness Drawn", the first song we heard weeks ago, is more thrash, faster and with melodic parts, in general lines, in "Wolf To Man" I notice something else of darkness and heavier voices. I do not know if you agree with me. Tell me about the sound of your new work.
We are very happy of how the new album turned out and we worked with much more intensity this time. The new album it´s heavier than the last one and we got a much fuller and richer sound this time, thanks to Ronnie Björnström from the mixroom studios for that great mix and master. We don`t want to repeat ourselves and we are always looking for new ways to expand and evolve our sound, because nobody likes repetition. Our chemistry works really well and with the addition of Ronnie writing all the lyrics and vocal melodies that, that became a trinity that gave the album the extra flavor that we were looking for. We recorded the album in different studios so that way we could make it with the recording budget we had. We did drums in Greece and the rest of the stuff like guitars, bass and vocals in Sweden. I think that the album it´s a bit darker and more rough sounding and Ronnie did a great job with his vocals, experimenting also with some parts that has more of a melody.

Death melodic metal, with references to that sound played by bands like In Flames, but there are much more details. There are strong doses of thrash, songs with very dark background, as in the own "Wolf To Man". Have you opened much more musically speaking?
Our style it´s a combination of brutality and hooks and we are always trying to marry these elements and create songs that are interesting. We love thrash and death metal and classic metal in general and we want our music to have energy and melody at the same time. We want to evolve our music and always be better songwriters in the metal perspective that defines this band. We love metal and we are also fans of the music that we playing and on the new album we had a great chemistry between us the creative trinity that is me with Magnus and Ronnie. I think that we very open minded when we are composing songs and that helped the new album to have different sort of influences and be more varied.

Now I think that the weight of the composition is distributed more than in previous works. Ronnie takes care of the lyrics, you and Magnus give the melody. Do you think this has helped to take another step in your sound and create an album like this one?
Yeah like I said we are a team and it´s not only me doing all the music, it´s a team work and you can actually hear that on the new album. Ronnie did all the vocal melodies and wrote all the lyrics and Magnus and me written most of the songs together. Plus this time Magnus wrote a bunch of songs on his own and that gave the album and new edge and identity. So it´s not only my riffs like it used to be on the older albums, we have new influences and that helps the material of the album being more varied.

There are many songs from the album that I liked, but above all the songs like "Wolf To Man", "God Forbid" and "Disconnecting The Dots". Could you briefly tell me about them?
Wolf To Man it´s one of the most eerie songs on the album and I think it turned our really great, has these paranoid riffs combined with a strange melody and great vocals from Ronnie, especially on the chorus where he is using some choir monks style vocals along with his signature screaming. The song talks about the fact that we are our own biggest enemies, our own biggest threat and our own prey. Here in the lyrics described a bit from the angle of a beast/wolf on the hunt in the verses.

God Forbid it´s the first song that we have written for that album and it´s very heavy with some signature Nightrage melodies, I remember that I came initially with this idea and wanted to use that song for another project but Magnus insisted that the song was good enough to make it on the album. The song talks about the wars we wage in the name of religion. Where is your gods when you lay there, spread all over the battlefield taking your last breath, all while your family is being torn to pieces in what once was your home? Is this what your god wished for you? Do your god remember you and can he now forgive your deeds? Was your god worth this?

Disconnecting The Dots it´s more melodic and heavier at the same time, with these well known Nightrage melodies, we got great response for that song so far and it talks about how we now don't bother research fact about anything any more. There is no source criticism and we don't even care if shit online or on the news is true or not, as long as it makes us feel anything even for just a second, we click the "like" button. With "truths" taken out of context, everything falls apart and we know it and see it but no one cares anymore. We just stand there and watch our world go down, hitting the "like" as we go.

The theme of the album continues with the line marked in your previous work "The Venomous", and that speaks of the disappearance of humanity. Could you go a little deeper into what parts and aspects you focus on in "Wolf To Man"?
It´s again a concept album following the theme from the last album "The Venomous" if on the The Venomous we were walking towards our own extinction, now we are already there ready to jump on the chaos that we have created. Ronnie got inspired from this latin proverb "Homo Homini Lupus Est" and also got inspired from some early artwork that Vagelis from revolver design have shown us. We humans have and always had a hidden agenda, a hidden darkness that resides in all of us and unfortunately is that what always driving us. We are dealing with different concepts of that human darkness on the whole album, we as humans we are a cancer to this world, we are our own worst enemies, we believe in false gods, we believe in the lies that we are creating for a so called perfect life that in reality its not existing, we given up on real life and believe in any bullshit that comes from social media. All that different themes are connected on the new album and every song deals with that fact that this darkness will eventually bring us down. And we need to accept that as a fact.

Francisco Escalona on bass and Dino George Stamoglou on drums, are your new companions. Listening to "Wolf To Man" we noticed a good tune. How were the new changes in Nightrage?
There are great guys and musicians for sure and we have tried them on live shows before they ended up being in the band. Franco played wonderfully all his bass lines on the new album. Dino is a super talented yound kid 22 years old that impressed everybody with his great skills and played with us on the recent tour with Voivod. Both are great personalities as well that makes the band tighter and we have a great bond as friends and always having the best of time hanging out together.

8 albums in 19 years, by the band have passed musicians like Gus G. or Tomas Lindberg. If you look back, how have you seen the evolution of Nightrage?
Yeah I think that after so many years I´m proud of the fact that we are still here and alive and we still delivering albums that we love. Nightrage has a power that no one and nothing can stop we have heard some people talking down to us sometimes and that we need to stop playing, but for real we don´s listen to that, we are here to stay and nothing will stop us for doing what we love, again and again. Looking back now I realize how focused I was from day one and that I really believed in this band and I was willing to sacrifice everything in order to follow my dream. I´m also very happy that we didn´t end up a shitty band following the easy way of any trend and become a parody of ourselves, we are metal band and that`s what we are going to stay.

"Wolf To Man" comes out on March 19. What feelings do you have now?
I love the new album contains all the elements that we are well known for. I hope that people that will check our new album and give us a chance here because they might find something they like here. We are super excited with how the album sounds and turns out and we can´t wait to share the new music with all the metal fans. We worked really hard on this album and we put a lot of effort to make the songs the best possible. You can hear the creativity and passion flowing on this album and we feel like we are in a good place now with the band and the songs.

What are the Nightrage plans for this 2019?
As we speak now we are planning new shows in Greece and Europe, then we have already booked our first headline appearance at Warhorns Festival in the UK at 30th of August and we are planning also to play more UK dates and Euro dates around that festival. We want to go out and play the new songs and meet all our fans and share great memories giving our fans the best we can.

Thank you very much, and good luck with "Wolf To Man", an excellent work.
Thanks so much and we are so happy that you liked the new album, wanna send the warmest greetings to all our Spanish fans, go and support true melodic death metal, go and buy "Wolf To Man" and come to the shows, be always well and never forget that "Man Is Wolf To Man"
