Review: 'EXILIUM' el nuevo disco de NOCTEM.

Antes de empezar es importante resaltar qué este es mi primer acercamiento a los Españoles NOCTEM con su nuevo álbum, "Exilium"que será lanzado el 03 de marzo en España y el resto del mundo, teniendo que esperar hasta el 7 de abril en Europa. Estoy encantado con esta oportunidad, teniendo en cuenta que ahora se ha convertido en uno de mis discos favoritos de black metal. Es oscuro, progresivo, y tiene una gran cantidad de esos elementos atmosféricos que no sólo hacen de esta una banda de metal extremo excelente, sino que consiguen exteriorizar un concepto más espeluznante y malvado.
“Exilium” comienza con una introducción de teclado lento "Enuma Elish", para establecer un estado de ánimo hasta la segunda pista, "Apsu Dethroned", donde entra en acción con un tempo mucho más pesado y más rápido. Arrancando con elementos vocales melódicos importados de ópera, lo que supone un elemento genial, pero cuando las voces reales entran en acción es cuando cobra sentido y escuchamos el sonido único de NOCTEM de los qué ahora me declaro seguidor sin duda. Hay mucha locura en las partes de batería y el ritmo rápido de los riffs de la guitarra en esta canción, pero en el medio y al final llegamos a oír más de las habilidades instrumentales de NOCTEM, incluyendo un solo de guitarra. Aunque un poco lenta en sus inicios, la tercera pista " Decrepit Human Kingdom " continua donde lo dejamos y aquí es donde las cosas se ponen mucho más duras. Llenas de más voces desgarradas y agresividad sin pausa, esta pista es probablemente uno de mis favoritas de este álbum.
Vamos a profundizar en la siguiente pista, "Tiamat,s crow". La totalidad de esta canción muestra perfectamente las habilidades de NOCTEM para tomar sonidos de otros subgéneros del metal, no sólo del black metal. El riff principal estalla como un riff de thrash metal, que captura automáticamente mi atención. No puede haber ningún error al mezclar ambos generos. Si escuchas Skeletonwitch, ya sabes de lo que estoy hablando.
¿Como dices? ¿quieres una canción más rápida? No es un problema, porque la canción titulada "The Rising Horns" nos da precisamente eso. Melodías, blast beats, mucha batería, one note picking, tapping. Hay incluso hay una muestra acústica perfectamente colocada. No hace falta decir esta qué esta canción tiene de todo. La siguiente canción, aunque no soy ciertamente religioso, se lo agradezco a los dioses del black metal. " Halo of Repugnance " definitivamente destaca en mi opinión como la mejor canción de este álbum. A los 5 minutos y 23 segundos, esta canción me llamó la atención de una manera inimaginable. Por lo general, no me gustan los temas demasiado largos o muy extensos, pero a veces hasta me quedo incompleto cuando las canciones son simplemente demasiado cortas. Esta canción sin embargo, encontró mi punto personal.
Después de tanta brutalidad, hay un tema instrumental en acústico interesante y con ira. Me gusta que no sólo sueltan un título como "instrumental" o "pausa". Esta canción se llama "Egregor". Un poco más lenta, en comparación con el resto de las canciones, " The Splint Of Destinations " capta mi asombro. Esta canción muestra las habilidades de NOCTEM de tener canciones que progresan, resultando impactantes para el oído. En general estoy impresionado. A medida que el final de este álbum se acerca, "Eidolon" pone una gran sonrisa en mi cara y me hace saber que todo va a estar O.K. porque siempre puedo rebobinar. Llegando al 6 minuto y 36 segundos, me siento como que estoy en una canción recién publicada de “Between The Buried & Me”, si estoy despierto y un infierno mucho más satisfecho. Nunca miro hacia atrás, y de hecho me quedé con ganas de más. El último riff es probablemente una de los más pegadizos en este álbum. He escuchado de nuevo este tema sólo para escuchar a los últimos gloriosos 30 segundos o menos.
En lo que parecía un corto periodo de tiempo, hemos llegado a la última canción, "The Adamantine Doors". Aunque no es tan dura, me encanta esta canción. Las melodías de esta canción capturan muchas emociones poderosas. Casi un sentimiento triste, sentí cuando este álbum fue llegando a su fin. No me estoy quejando, sin embargo, cada segundo de este álbum fue una obra maestra total y absoluta. Lo que hay que hacer, (y es una recomendación), hágase un favor y compre este pedazo de obra de arte que es "Exilium".

Let me just go ahead and start of by saying that I hadn´t come across this band just yet up until I was given the opportunity to listen to their upcoming album, "Exilium" to be released March 3rd everywhere in the world besides Europe, in which it will be released on April 7th. I´m delighted to have this bestowed upon me, considering that it has now become one of my favorite black metal albums. It´s dark, progressive, and has a lot of those atmospheric elements that not only make this band an excellent extreme metal band, but brings forth a more spooky and evil concept.
Exilium starts us off with a slow keyboard introduction, "Enuma Elish", to set the mood up until the second track, "Apsu Dethroned",
kicks in with a much heavier and faster tempo. In the very beginning there is some opera like singing, which is cool, but when the actual vocals come in that´s when it starts to pick up and we hear Noctmen´s unique sound that I´ve become so fond of recently. There is a lot crazy drum fills and fast pace guitar riffs in this track, yet in the middle and towards the end we get to hear more of Noctem´s instrumental skills, including a guitar solo. Although there is a bit of a slow start there, the third track "Decrepit Human Kingdom" comes in where we left off and here is where things start to get a lot heavier. Filled with more vocals and non stop aggression, this track is probably one of my favorites off this album.
Let´s delve into the next track, "Tiamat,s crow". The entirely of this song perfectly displays Noctem´s abilities to take sounds from other metal sub genres, not just black metal. The main riff pops out at me as a thrash metal riff, which automatically catches my attention. There can be no mistake when mixing both trash metal and black metal. If you listen to Skeletonwitch, you know what I´m talking about.
Say what? you want a faster song? Not a problem, because this track titled "The Rising Horns" gives us just that. Melodies, blast beats, drum fills, fast single note picking, tapping. There is even an acoustic bit perfectly placed. Needless to say, this song has it all. The next song, although I am most certainly not religious, I thank the black metal gods for. "Halo of Repugnance" most definitely stands out to me as the best song on this album. At 5 minutes and 23 seconds, this song captured my attention in an unimaginable way. Usually I would either dose off into my own thoughts if a song is too long, and sometimes I even get upset when songs are simply too short. This song however, hit my sweet spot.
After so much brutality, there is an interesting and ire acoustic instrumental. I like that they didn´t just slap a title like "instrumental" or "hiatus". This track is called "Egregor". A bit on the slower side, compared to the rest of the songs that is, "The Splint of Destinations" captures my amazement. This song exhibits Noctem´s skills to have songs that progress, yet make perfect sense to the ear. To my mind, I´m blown away. As the ending of this album approaches, "Eidolon" puts a huge smile on my face and let´s me know that everything will be okey because I can always rewind. Clocking in at 6 minutes and 36 seconds, I feel like I´m in a newly released Between The Buried And Me song, except I´m wide awake and a hell lot more satisfied. Never did I look back, and in fact I was left wanting more. The last riff is probably one of the most catchy on this album. I´d listen to this whole song just to listen to those last glorious 30 seconds or so.
In what seemed like a short amount of time we have come to the final song, "The Adamantine Doors". Although not extremely heavy, I love this song. The melodies in this song captured so many powerful emotions. With almost a sad type feel to it, it expressed just how I felt that this album was coming to an end. I´m not complaining though, every second of this album was a complete and utter masterpiece. Whatever needs to be done, do yourself a favor and purchase this fine piece of art which is "Exilium".
