Entrevista: SCARLETT RIOT; "Regenerate" es un poco más pesado que nuestros trabajos anteriores" Scarlett (voz/guitarra).

Nacidos en Reino Unido en 2012, 4 Ep's y 2 álbumes a sus espaldas, SCARLETT RIOT se están forjando su camino de forma firme y contundente. Con un aire totalmente "regenerado", llegan de la mano de Despotz Records con su segundo álbum "Regenerate", título cargado de intenciones... nueva imagen, nuevo sonido... Bajo la influencia de bandas como Bullet For My Valentine, Architects, Alterbridge o Asking Alexandria, nos dejan un excelente trabajo cargado de intenciones. Hablamos con Scarlett, vocalista y guitarra para conocer más acerca de su nueva "Regeneración".”Regenerate” es el título de vuestro nuevo álbum, tiene algún mensaje concreto?
"Regenerate" fue escrito como un mensaje inspirador para los fans y para cualquiera que lo escuche que no le importe lo duro que es la vida, sin importar lo que la vida le depare y nunca es demasiado tarde para un nuevo comienzo. Todos tenemos la capacidad de aprender de nuestros éxitos y fracasos y cambiar el camino en la vida. ¡Reconstruye, restaura, regenera!

Escuchando vuestros anteriores trabajos, hay muchas diferencias entre ellos y el sonido de “Regenerate”, supongo que también hace referencia a Scarlett Riot como banda, no?
"Regenerate" es un poco más pesado que nuestros trabajos anteriores. Creo que sucedió de forma natural, sin embargo, acabamos de progresar y madurar juntos lo que se ha visto a lo largo de nuestra música. Hemos regenerado a Skarlett Riot realmente, una imagen nueva, sonido fresco, nuevo sello, management...

Estas canciones suenan más pesadas, más duras… Porque ese cambio de sonido e imagen?
Estabamos pasando una racha difícil como banda hace un año o así, así que decidimos revivir a la banda, obtener un sonido nuevo y una imagen nueva para acompañarlo. Firmamos con Despotz Records y querían un nuevo álbum, así que pensamos que este sería el momento perfecto para trabajar sobre nosotros mismos. Salimos de gira en noviembre con Toseland en el Reino Unido y diciembre con Santa Cruz en el Reino Unido y Alemania para promocionar el lanzamiento del nuevo álbum.

Para aquellos que no os conocen, cuales serían vuestras influencias más directas?
Todos tenemos diferentes influencias individualmente. Para mí, mis gustos van desde Joan Jett, Heart hasta Trivium, Bullet For My Valentine, Nothing More, In This Moment.

Otro cambio significativo es el fichaje para el sello Despotz Records. Como surge fichar con el sello sueco y que supone para vosotros?
Nos presentaron a través de nuestra oficina de management. Nuestra oficina pensó que Despotz quería nuestro EP 'Sentience', ¡que lo hicieron! El sello se ofreció para ayudar aún más a Skarlett Riot, a ayudarnos a difundir nuestra música en todo el mundo. Siempre hicimos todo por nuestra cuenta, pero como la oferta era muy buena y no querían cambiar nuestro estilo musical, decidimos formar equipo. ¡La respuesta del álbum ha sido excelente hasta ahora!

Habéis lanzado algunos temas como adelanto del álbum, el último “Warrior”, como veis la reacción de vuestros fans de siempre?
¡Ha sido genial ver lo que piensan nuestros fans de lo nuevo! No hemos tenido más que comentarios positivos que son increíbles. ¡Todos parecen cuajar! Creo que hemos mantenido nuestro sonido Skarlett Riot, pero lo hemos desarrollado aún más. La gente lo quiere. Hay algunos fans que aún no han recibido sus pre-order, así que están ansiosos por escuchar esta nueva dirección. No puedo esperar para escuchar las opiniones cuando les llegue.

"Break" es el tema encargado de abrir el álbum, una canción con mucho gancho, directa… es una forma de decir …”aquí estamos, regenerados y listos para dar el salto”. Es una buena carta de presentación. No se si lo habéis colocado ahí con esa intención?
Sí, definitivamente, la canción realmente fue escrita sobre el bullying y la conciencia del problema. Aunque representa potencia y fuerza, que es la vibración general del álbum, por lo que puede ser interpretada de esa manera. Lo bueno es que todos los que escuchan las canciones sentirán algo diferente de ella, lo cual es muy emocionante.

El álbum esta recibiendo muy buenas criticas, todas muy positivas. Que valoración haríais vosotros sobre ello?
Es genial, seguro. Nos sentamos por un tiempo alrededor del álbum, así que está bien al final ver todo lo que la gente piensa. Las críticas han sido positivas, no he visto ninguna mala, ¡eso es increíble!

Con este nuevo álbum, en 7 años habéis editado 2 y 4 EPs, creéis que estáis en el punto que os habría gustado cuando empezó la carrera de Scarlett Riot, están pasando las cosas como esperabais?
Cuando comenzamos Skarlett Riot solo queríamos intentar escribir música. Realmente no teníamos un objetivo o una dirección. Cuando vimos a personas que mostraba interés en nosotros y comenzamos a recibir reconocimiento, pensamos: ¡Guau! ¡Sí, esto es lo que queremos hacer!
Nunca imaginamos que llegaríamos donde estamos ahora. Es increíble y estamos muy agradecidos por lo que hemos logrado. Aunque todavía tenemos objetivos y metas, queremos hacer una gira por Europa, EE. UU. y llegar a la mayor cantidad de gente posible. ¡Todavía tenemos mucho camino por recorrer, pero ya hemos llegado lejos y por eso estamos agradecidos!

Con el disco en la calle, que planes de futuro tiene Scarlett Riot?
Salimos de gira en noviembre y diciembre como dije anteriormente. Vamos a Alemania por primera vez, cosa que nos entusiasma. Una vez hayamos vuelto de la gira, comenzaremos a planear 2018. ¡Seguramente habrá muchas giras y noticias del álbum!

Para aquellos que no han escuchado nunca a Scarlett Riot, como les definiriais “Regenerate”, que les diriais?
"Regenerate" es una afirmación y un mensaje alentador para cualquiera que lo escuche para mantenerse fuerte. Mantén la cabeza alta y enfrenta todo lo que la vida te depare. Haz lo que sea necesario para hacerte feliz, cambia de dirección, comienza de nuevo, no es demasiado tarde a ninguna edad ni en ninguna situación. Cuando escuchas "Regenerate" quiero que sientas una energía positiva, una sensación general de fortaleza y valentía.

** Regenerate is the title of your new álbum. Does it have any concrete message?
Regenerate was written as a uplifting message to fans and anyone listening that no matter how hard life gets, no matter what life throws at you, it's never too late for a brand new beginning. We all have the ability to learn from our successes and failures and to change path in life. Rebuild, restore, regenerate!

** Listening your previous Jobs, there are some diferences between them and Regenerate sound, I supose this refers to Scarlett Riot as a band. Isn’t it?
Regenerate is a bit heavier than our previous releases. I think this happened naturally though, we've just progressed and matured together which has come across in our music. We've 'Regenerated' Skarlett Riot really, a brand new image, fresh sound, new label, management.

** This songs sounds heavier, harder… Why did you do this change in sound and image?
We we're going through a rough patch as a band a year or so ago, so we decided to revive the band, get a brand new sound and fresh image to go with it. We signed to Despotz Records and they wanted a new album, so we thought this would be the perfect time to work on ourselves. We head out on tour in November with Toseland in the UK and December with Santa Cruz in the UK and Germany to support the new album release!

** For people who don’t know you, wich could be your greater influences?
We all have different influences as individuals, for me (Skarlett) mine range from Joan Jett, Heart all the way to Trivium, Bullet For My Valentine, Nothing More, In This Moment.

** Another significative change is your signing with Despotz Records. Why did you decide sign with them and what represents it for you?
We were introduced to them via our management, our management thought Despotz would love our 'Sentience' EP which they did! The label offered to help support Skarlett Riot further, to help us get our music out worldwide. We've always done everything DIY but because the offer was so good, and they didn't want to change our musical style, we decided to team up. The response from the album has been great so far!

** You have edited some songs such a preview of the álbum, the last one, Warrior, how do you see your old fans reaction?
It's been great to see what our fans think of the new music! We've had nothing but positive feedback which is amazing. Everyone seems to dig it! I think we've kept our 'Skarlett Riot' sound but developed it further. People are loving it. There's some fans who haven't got their pre orders yet so are keen to hear the new direction. I can't wait to hear everyone's opinions once they all arrive!

** Break is the cut that opens the álbum, one song very cool, direct… it is a way of saying… Here we are, regenerated and ready to jump. It is a very good presentation letter. I don’t know if this were your intention?
Yeah definitely, well the actual song was written about bullying and raising awareness of the issue. Although it represents power and strength which is the overall vibe of the album so it can be interpenetrated that way for sure. The great thing is, everyone who listens to the songs will feel something different from it , which makes it so exciting!

** The álbum collected very good reviews, all very positives. What do you think about it?
It's great for sure. We've been sat on the album for a while now, so it's nice to finally see what people think to it! The reviews have all been positive, I haven't seen a bad one at all so that's awesome!

** With this new álbum, you have edited 2 lp and 4 eps in the last 7 years, do you think you are in the right point, or the point you would like to be when your career began? Are the things passing by that you expected?
When we first started SR, we just wanted to try out writing music, we didn't really have a aim or direction. When we saw people we're showing interest in us and we started getting recognition, we thought, wow.. yes this is what we want to do!
We never imagined we would get where we are now. It's amazing and we are so thankful for what we've achieved.

Although we still have aims and goals, we want to tour europe, USA and get ourselves out to as many people as possible. We would love to sell out academys. We have quite a way to go, but we've come so far and for that we are grateful!

** Whit the record on Street, what are the future plans of Skarlett Riot?
We head out on tour this November and December as mentioned above. We head into Germany for the first time which we are excited about. Once we are back from tour, we are going to start planning 2018. Plenty of touring and advertising of the album for sure!

** For people didn’t never hear Skarlett Riot, how do you define Regenerate? What are you gonna say them?
Regenerate is a statement, and a uplifting message to anyone listening to stay strong. Hold your head up high and face whatever life throws at you. Do whatever it takes to make yourself happy, change direction, start again, it's not too late at any age or in any situation. When you listen to Regenerate, I want you to feel a positive energy, a general sense of strength and bravery.
